Where\'s my horse?!
Last week at the Calgary Stampede Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Calgary is the greatest city in Canada. The Calgary crowd loved it.
Elsewhere in Canada his sweeping statement was greeted with less enthusiasm.
Toronto, where Harper was born, reminded him it has the largest metropolitan population. Ottawa chirped in that it has the distinction of occupying the largest territory of any city in Canada.
Calgary has never been declared a heritage city by UNESCO. Quebec City holds that distinction.
In Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson dismissed Harper’s bragging.
Somebody else added that Harper may have been out in the sun too long without his cowboy hat on.
It’s always best for politicians not to get carried away with exaggerations, even hometown exaggerations.
